Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born on April 4 in 1972. Since she was the only child Scott was also raised by her maternal grandmother. Scott completed her studies at the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Then she enrolled in Temple University. Scott was a student in secondary school and also worked at two job. Her goal was to be the high school's English teacher. However, her dream was in vain when she left the college after a year of studying and becoming an aide to teachers. Following her first gigs singing at poetry events She eventually joined forces with Amir Quest Thompson of The Roots. You Got Me is the result of their collaboration. In Roots' show she showed herself as an artist. After that, she was able to negotiate collaborations with people like Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. Additionally, she gained experience as a performer in her participation in the Canada tour of the Broadway musical Rent. She was hired to Hidden Beach Recordings as their first signing artist.
